The Personal Qualities of a Teacher

The Personal Qualities of a Teacher What personal qualities are desirable in a teacher?  Probable no two people would draw up exactly similar lists, but the following may be generally accepted. The teacher’s personality should be pleasant and attractive. We come across so many teachers, who are depressed, sarcastic, and pompous, and students have no other choice but to tolerate them. A teacher must always remain mentally alert.  A passive teacher may not be able to keep his/her students active and may fail to fulfill the purpose of teaching. A teacher ought to have infinite patience and self-discipline.  Furthermore, he/she needs to have genuine sympathy- a capacity to tune in to the minds and feelings of other people.  Finally he/she shall have the kind of mind which always wants to go on learning. Teaching is a job at which one can never be perfect; there will always be something more to learn about.
