Poverty, Education and Floods in Pakistan We hear the problem of poverty in the country but many of us have not seen it by themselves as I did. It is a different experience to see how poor our fellows are. One feels sorry for them and also tries to help them because of their need. I want to tell my recent experience of the poverty situation in the country. I was part of a government survey team to make a report on the damages done by the rain & floods. I live in the city area as many of us living in; it was my first experience to visit any backward area. I have seen houses made of mud but never went in them. We were asked to see how many houses are damaged.T he damage was categorized as partial and complete. Cricket, Spot Fixing, Match Fixing The case is with Scotland Yard and every one knows that they use scientific method to spot the crime. I am certain that they will do it professionally and perfectly this time also. I can not say any thing about the roll of ECB in investigation because I am not expert. Mother Tongue, Education and Pakistan Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Awan wrote a column in daily Aaj on 17 October 2010 in which he discussed the bill passed in the provincial assembly of KPK, the assembly wants to teach the students’ science subject in Pashto. I am also a teacher but I don’t know the spelling of Pashto how can I teach my students in Pashto. I am also worried about my future as well as other of my colleagues who don’t know how to say salaam in Pashto .If government arranges some courses for the teachers for Pashto I think I will the first to refuse to attend these types of courses because I have no background. I prefer to use English which is very weak but I can do better in it. He further said that the government has given them land for that purpose too. Media, Root of All Evil Nowadays most the people thinks that media is the root cause of most of the problems. For example they think that all the tensions are caused by the breaking news, discussions and analysis made by experts. Many simple matters become complicated due to media. Pros and cons are always there. Important News Hour by Hour People think that media is exaggerating things but I don’t think so. If we analyze the matter it happen like this that once we hear an important news it is repeated on other channels they gets expert opinion from two or three people and then starts other topic. If a person keeps sitting and watching the news channel he will hear the same news and the same expert opinion again, and also if he is switching the channels he will get the same type of matter from other channels too.
