House Warming Party and Quran Khawani
In my last article about “fox stories” I mentioned that we have recently shifted to new house. This house was completed and furnished in October and we shifted in December.
First night
When we spent first night here I thought it was colder than the one we came from. In the morning I asked my mother that this is very cold .my mother said that it will become normal when we hold Quran Khawani. In the evening my mother went to meet our neighbours and also invited them for Quran Khawani.
Next day
Next day some twenty twenty-five women with their children came to our house some of them started cooking halwa (sweet dish) and Samosas. The other sits in one room and start reciting Holy Quran.
We locked one room which was full of our expensive house hold elements. Other rooms were open for children they ran here and there in the entire house. I wanted to stop them but my mother allowed them.
Benefits
When I asked my mom about all this exercise she told me that this is old ritual. It has many benefits. Some of the benefits which she told me were as follows:
1- It is for good luck and also to prevent it from bad sprits.
2- It brings neighbours close they have some chat and gossip.
3- It helps in warming the house. She was unable to tell why?
Additional information
My sister who lives in England called this house warming party. She told me that it is routine in England .after that she gave me additional information that when they go back to their house it will be very cold and will need almost two days to warm up. When I heard about house warming I became curios about this and did some searching, which I am presenting for general interest.
Definition
A housewarming party is a party held on the occasion of moving into a new residence (Oxford Dictionary). It is an occasion for the hosts to present their new home to their friends, and sometimes for friends to give gifts to furnish the new home. Housewarming parties are generally informal; usually there are no planned activities besides a possible tour (Wikipedia)
Event of life
Most of us lives with our parents (in combine family) therefore I think that making ones own house is biggest event of life. Some people die without having their own house. “Moving into a new home ranks among the more exciting events in life. It’s definitely time to break out the bubbly and celebrate. It can also be stressful if you’re moving away from friends and family. In either case, holding a housewarming party is a good way to welcome new and old friends to your home. (About.com)
Show off
. “Some people host a housewarming to show off their new, or newly renovated, home to old friends. In the case where the move is to a distant location, a housewarming can be used as a way to meet the new community. Finally, in some cases, family or neighbors bring the housewarming party to the new homeowner as a way of welcoming him.” (About.com)
Social event
. “Housewarming parties are a lot of fun for both the homeowner and the guests. Housewarming parties can turn into large social events for families and serve as an opportunity to have a party with relatives. Guests can also admire the new home and get a tour of the house the owner has recently purchased. .” (ehow.com)
Introduction to neighbours
Introduction of new neighbours to the owner and old friends is main point in my opinion. “The only game that might be useful is a simple icebreaker to introduce old friends to new neighbors” (about.com)
Gifts
Some of our friends brought gifts especially of Quranic verses and names of Allah .They are consider bringing good luck and blessings in the house. Gifts are customary but not necessary. They usually consist of something for the new house (such as a potted plant, a vase, or a picture frame) or something to be enjoyed during the party (such as a bottle of wine, a bouquet of flowers, or a gift basket of foodstuffs). Bluebirds were once given as they were believed to bless the new house with happiness and good luck, but in modern day it is more customary to provide bluebird-themed paraphernalia such as china. In Thailand the traditional Thai housewarming is a Buddhist ritual where monks, family, friends and food all play an important part
In India, this ceremony is known as “Griha Pravesh” or “Gruha Pravesh” literally meaning “Entering New House” (for the first time). . (Wikipedia)
